CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE


The proposal to set up a Centre of Excellence to facilitate the development of professionalism for fulfilling the expectations of the department was first mooted by CBIC(erstwhile CBEC) in 2001. However, effectively CoE was started when its own premises at NBCC Plaza, Saket was acquired in 2011.


CoE was conceived as an institution for significant research in the areas of taxation, tax administration management, macroeconomic policies, fiscal federalism and other related issues. CoE is devoted to educating tax administrators, the public finance academia, and policymakers.


An MoU dated was signed in 2016 between National Law School India University (a leading institute engaged in providing under graduate level education) and Department of Revenue (DoR) for establishment of a DoR Chair in NLSIU having a Management Committee (MC) at the helm of the affairs. The DoR Chair is involved in Conducting Teaching Courses for the students of NLSIU particularly in the field of Indirect Taxation, Preparation of the Training Module for the officers of the CBIC and conducting study on the topics identified for Management Committee.


In 2020 Two Research reports titled “VAT Frauds and Tax Evasion – international trends and lessons India can learn” and “Customs Valuation & Transfer Pricing- relevance of the arm’s length principle in curbing profit shifting through transfer pricing” was submitted to CBIC.
